DACC123 - Recruitment
This month, the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce DACC 123 topic was recruitment.
Mel Robertson, the Engineering Team Manager in charge of the Engineering Apprentice programme at the Montrose GSK location, was the guest speaker and discussed the benefits of employing young people in the workplace. We also had the pleasure of hearing from several GSK apprentices.
The topics covered included:
The opportunities to develop talent through apprenticeships
The difficulties with present hiring practice and the possibilities for improvement
The shared experiences of many people who want to involve young people in business and recognise the advantages of a diverse workforce
UnFiltered
Unfiltered is on the first Wednesday of the month and is an informal catch-up (coffee and pastries) with the tech community at the ONE Codebase Tech Hub in Aberdeen.
Recently caught up with...
Friends old and new at a festive soiree at The Albyn, including Steve Parkinson, Bert Yon, Pat Bonnor and Graham Alexander.
James Donaldson (Engage PR) and others at the Engage PR end-of-year catch-up at Under The Hammer.
Productivity
As recently discussed in previous newsletters, the focus has been on reducing the time spent on the day-to-day tasks that clutter my day.
This approach has reduced my working day for repetitive tasks from 5 to 6 hours to 2 hours in the morning, leaving more time to think and develop strategies for the future, as well as releasing time to network and help others with social media and content marketing products and services.
Software Applications
I thought I'd look at a Chrome Extension this month.
If you're unaware, a Chrome Extension is a small program installed in your Chrome browser that enhances the browser's functionality - usually, but always, of another program.
I'm a big fan of extensions, especially as most are free or, at the very least, low-cost.
Here's an extension in my toolkit focusing on finding email addresses.
Hunter

Hunter lets you find email addresses in seconds that matter to your business. And in the case of the extension, the Hunter Chrome Extension allows you immediately see the email addresses behind the websites you're browsing.
You can use Hunter for free for up to 25 email searches and 50 email verifications per month.
